How much do you charge for time in your recording studio?

As a rule, recording studios in the UK charge anywhere from £20 to £1,000 or more per hour. At Cherry Street Records, we do things a bit differently. If you record one of our songs, for example, you’ll have the choice of taking a small percentage of any sales on the track, or recording one of your own songs as well. If it’s the latter, you’ll only pay for the engineer. Contact us for a chat about engineer rates – or anything else! You’ll need to pay for any CDs or tapes you take away of course: prices for these will vary depending on format etc, so again, hit that contact button for more info.
Wow! Why are you doing this?

We have a huge back catalogue of unrecorded music; around 300 songs, written over the course of our long careers in the industry. So all we ask in return for using the studio is that you record some of our material alongside your own stuff. If you’re happy to do that, it’s all good.

We’re also happy to represent you under the Cherry Street Records label on a per-record basis, and help you to build your career in the UK.
Who can take up this amazing offer?

We’re specifically looking for singers (male and female; pop, rock and R&B), keyboard players, and anyone who can work a Roland or Boss drum machine. We have a mezzo-soprano session vocalist, a clarinettist, a pianist, and an experienced rock bassist.
Can I record anything I want?

You can record whatever you want! So long as you’re willing to record a couple of Paul and Geoff’s songs as well.
Who owns the tracks I record?

If it’s your own material, then it’s 100% yours. If it’s a song from Paul and Geoff’s back catalogue, we’ll retain the rights but you’ll get a percentage of sales.
I want to send out some demos. Can you help?

Absolutely! By recording a demo with us, you’ll have access to our combined (cough) 100 years or so of industry experience. We’ll support you in any way we can.
What equipment do you have in your studio?

Thanks to our friend Bob Burnell, we have a pretty good roomful of kit including a 32-track mixing desk, loads of guitars and amps, and several drum machines. We’ll keep developing as our studio community grows, too. You can see our full equipment list here
